“My name is MUKANKUNDIYE Vestine. I was born in southern province, Ruhango district.

I lost my father in 1994 genocide. I could not finish school because I was the one to take care of my disabled mother and her sister. She was the one responsible for everything.

I heard about Esther’s aid and came from the village. I did not know anybody in KIGALI.

I lived with a friend to be able to come to school, but my friend couldn’t continue to live in KIGALI because they did not have food and rent.

Now I live with a single woman with 5 children who lives far from the school but I wake up at 5 am and walk 2 hours every day to get to school on time. I continue to struggle to be able to finish the training because I believe this is the only way I will be able to make a living. I have no other skills. I plans to work hard after I finish the training to be able to buy myself a sewing machine.

Now I have hope and a better perspective of the future. I ask people to help Esther’s Aid build dormitories to help poor girls like me coming from the village.”
